The real problem with the world is that the majority of people constantly try to achieve happiness through self gratification.This is a flawed perspective as the main reason for anyone's existence on this earth is not self gratification but service to others.
If you think about any individual or object on this earth ,it can be easily seen that irrespective of the intended agenda, they are willingly or unwillingly, always in a state of providing service to others,for example, tree bears fruits for others,converts carbon dioxide into oxygen for others,provides shade from the hot sun for others,after outliving its utility,it offers its wood for producing furniture for others.Similarly Sun provides light, heat & energy for others and its mere presence promotes many life supporting processes on this earth and there are infinite other examples which exemplify the perspective of service to others as the key objective of existence and we are no exception.Now sit back and think about the instances where you provided service to others and experienced happiness by making them happy.On the other hand think of situations where you worked on self gratification,where there was pain till you experienced it then their was a momentary,temporary relief but no lasting happiness and after experiencing gratification, the urge and longing for gratification kept on increasing , making bigger and higher demands.
In the beginning this concept may seam absurd, in the world teaching an individual to compete at every stage of studies, career & life, take your time to think about how suitable this approach will be for you as an individual, you need to try this out only if you feel that it is going to work for you and you are willing to take responsibility for the quality of happiness you experience and the world of difference it can make to your life.
Once we agree that offering meaningful service to others is the route towards lasting happiness,then we look at the talents we possess which give us the necessary capability to provide a certain kind of service to our fellow human beings.
